Frequently asked
When is an R&D survey legally required?+
Before any refurbishment or demolition work in a workplace where asbestos has been identified or is assumed. The PCBU with management or control must ensure an R&D survey is conducted before disturbance.
What is special about schools?+
From April 2026, the Ministry of Education requires schools to engage accredited asbestos suppliers from the MoE list for any survey or removal work on school property.
Does this replace a Management Survey?+
For refurbishment or demolition scopes, yes — the R&D survey supersedes the Management Survey in those areas. For ongoing building management, the Management Survey continues to apply.
